Final Review of QC Makeup Academy

I have finally completed my Master Makeup Course with QC Makeup Academy and happy for a few reasons. First of all, these courses are not required for you to become a makeup artist. Though, some states might require you to get an esthetician license to own a business that provides makeup services – this course is not a license of any kind.

Don’t be mislead into thinking this is your foot in the door. This is merely basic training for someone wanting to become a makeup artist. Don’t get me wrong, this course is great for someone who barely knows much about makeup but with the internet at your finger tips, you can learn these techniques with a little bit of research. After this course, you’ll still need a lot of practice, experience, and more studying.

Honestly, through all these assignments I completed, there was only one unit where I had to actually read one of my booklets (our study material) and this was towards the end of the course after I already completed the basic makeup course. Your written assignments are practically an open book test making it easy to get an A.

For your makeup application assignments, most of them tell you that you can use yourself as the model which doesn’t get you the experience of applying makeup to someone else – which is the goal right? If the assignment says to use someone else as a model, you can always grab your sister like I did and use her when needed.

Near the end of my course, the company decided for redo/reformat their curriculum. In the meantime of me having to decipher how to complete and turn in my assignments as half of my materials were outdated, I was contacting their customer service for most of my last few units. Their customer service was always outstanding and very polite  but their downfall isn’t them as a company as I know they can be a learning tool for a beginner. But there’s not much they can offer someone who knows how to find this information easily.

Overall, I’m still debating on whether this was a waste of money or not. It was a lot of money to put in to something I didn’t really learn much from but it wasn’t a waste of time as any time spent practicing is worth it.

Anyone thinking about starting this or any makeup course, please try to see what you can learn on your own first whether it’s from practicing on yourself, your friends, watching Youtube videos, researching, etc. If you are still at a beginner level after that then I advise you to take some kind of makeup artist course.

Accepted! – UD Pro

Urban Decay has recently started accepting applications for their UD Pro program.Today I eagerly awaited and was accepted into the program!

I couldn’t have been more excited until I realized that my area will probably never have events nor  will I ever be featured on a magazine so the only part of the program I can use are the discounts. I Forget What I Forgot

If you’re like me, you forget a lot of things. Once you remember, you eventually forget what you’ve forgotten.

If you’re having these sort of problems you can try these few things.

1. Write it down, now! You can take a piece of paper and attach it to your wall calendar or stick it in your journal, just make sure everything stays in the same place. When you remember something you’ve forgotten or have lost. Don’t be lazy and think you’ll remember it this time. The sooner your write it down the better.

2. Write down the location. When you find a lost item or whatever item and you’re like me and stick it in a “safe place” and so sure you’ll remember…write down on a list these items and where you end up placing them. That way later on, you can go to your list and find that item that you can’t seem to remember.

3. Designate! When you find something you’ve lost, put it in a certain container that is designated for the items you’re found and don’t want to lose again. That way when you’re trying to find wherever your new “safe place” is, it’ll just be this one spot. It’ll also help reduce clutter and keep you from putting random things places and never being about to find them again.

4. Become uncluttered! Go through your belongings thoroughly at least once a year to get rid of access stuff and to help you possibly find all the items you’ve been looking for.

 

I wouldn’t recommend trying to find your lost items or thoughts when you’re stressed or going through a rough time. If you can calm your nerves before ravaging through your house, you might be able to think clearly to maybe remember something. Just breath.

DIY: Valentine Heart Crayons

Whether it’s for your child or your lover that is a child at heart, you can make these cute heart crayons right at home and rather easy if you ask me!

What You Will Need:

– Any sized pot with an inch of water

– Old crayons (unwrapped and preferably in Valentine colors )

– Empty tin

– Heart shaped candy mold

– Knife

– Pliers (preferably needle-nosed)

– Pot Holder

– A Valentine baggie or anything Valentine themed to put your crayons into

1.  Set your pot with water onto the stove and turn it up to a medium boil. While you’re waiting for the pot to boil, use the knife to cut your unwrapped used crayons into small pieces (this will make it easier for melting).

2. Once your pot has come to a boil, put your crayon pieces into the tin. Now, while using your pliers to hold the tin, put the tin in the pot and hold it in the water (or as close as you can get to it) but keep it away from the bottom of the pan.

3. Once the crayons start melting swirl the tin around to mix it up a bit more to help them melt. Once your crayons have melted, use your pot holder to hold the tin and pour the melted crayons into the heart candy mold. Be careful not to over flow the mold.

4. Very carefully, put the mold in the freezer where it can lay flat and not spill out. Let it set for at least 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, pop your crayons out of the mold and put them into your Valentine baggies and enjoy!

If you’re shopping for a lady, I recommend hurrying over to your local CVS as they currently have 75% off on a lot of makeup products…and they’re all new. They’re not the usual returned items that were half used that they wanted to get rid of. They also have a lot of makeup items with 50% off as well but you can get plenty of makeup for someone from the 75% off products. I’ve already gone and bought them out of my favorite foundation.

 

If you’re looking for gifts for the kids, hurry over to Walgreen’s. They’re having a sale on a lot of toys like Hot Wheels cars for .59 cents and  candy 3/ .75 cents. I don’t know how long the sale on candy will be. It may be gone now. But also for the men, they have some As-Seen On TV items for rather cheap.

 

So if you’re a last minute shopper, head on over to your local pharmacy for some good deals.

Simple Stress Relief

Lately, I haven’t been able to post due to stress and anxiety. So what better topic to post about than stress relief. I collected a few tidbits to share about how to relieve some stress.

– Start of with some yoga. Try poses that represent pushing away negativity and bringing in positivity. Yoga is a form of exercise. Exercise releases endorphins making you feel better about yourself.

– Afterwards, take a soothing bath – add bubbles, scented oils, scented salts, etc to the bath. A soothing bath will not only cleanse you but it will also be symbolic of washing away the stress.

– Get yourself some comforting yet healthy food. I recommend some egg drop soup from P.F. Chang’s. Having something warm yet light will help relieve you of stress and make you feel healthy and clean on the inside.

– Make yourself a small cup of hot tea. I recommend a hot chai tea. Sipping on some hot tea will relax you and also be symbolic of warming your heart and soul.

– Light some incense or a candle. Getting all your senses involved with this stress relief will insure a well rounded routine of relaxation. Pick a scent you like and let it fill your home and …your mind.

– While drinking your tea, snuggle up in a blanket or snuggie with a nice and calming book. I recommend 1,001 Ways to Relax by Mike George. While calming your mind you can read more ways to relax.

These are just some simple tips I hope you find helpful in getting rid of the stresses of everyday life or to calm your mind of something that’s just been on your mind recently. In any situation, I wish you the best of luck.

White Coke

I walked into my local Walmart today and noticed in the front a stack of awesome looking white Coke cans. I looked closer and they had little polar bears on it…I immediately had the buy some because they were so pretty but then I finally notice the sign next to it. Coca-cola are for the first time in their 125 year history turning their red cans white for this special event. These cans are being turned white to promote the Arctic Home and their awareness and funds to better the environment for the polar bears.

Besides being one of the most gorgeous pieces of advertisement I had ever seen, I bought a few more sets than I had planned just because of the cause. I would recommend buying a set for yourself. Not only are they cute, they’re perfect for the holiday season. Enjoy.

First Nationwide EAS Scheduled

Tomorrow (Wednesday, November 9th, 2011), there will be a nationwide EAS (Emergency Alert System) test at 2PM EST on all local radio and TV stations. This will the first ever for the United States. Also, with the announcement they’re alerting people to have emergency supplies ready. This new alert system is being provided by the Emergency Alert System – the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Communications Commission and the National Weather Service in case the President himself needs to address the United States.

So far, they haven’t given a reason for this sudden alert but it has me on my toes.I keep wondering why all of the sudden they’re wanting to find a way to alert the entire United States. But of course, they know something we don’t…

Document Your Life

What better way to keep track of things in your life than to document them. Whether it be a journal, a log book, or simply just taking pictures of the important things you do during your day will definitely help to keep you organized and may end up being a lifesaver.

I hate to say it but in this society you can’t trust most people that you don’t know. People will throw out paperwork, accuse you of things, or even lie for their own benefit or even just for some self satisfaction. Keeping your documents and evidence will save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

Since I’ve had some legal problems and other things. I’ve decided I’m going to try to keep a log book of everything I do. Well, everything important I do that I think needs logging. Just today, I copied a legal letter I was sending and put it in a manilla folder and logged it in my book exactly what I did, dated it, and signed it as well.

Here are some of my own tips if you’re going to start documenting:

1.  Get a notebook/log book – Digital documenting isn’t always safe and secure. Documents can get erased, viruses can possibly steal information, or your computer could crash and there goes all your hard work. Keeping everything written on paper insures that it’s going to be there even if something happens to your computer.

2. Get a pen just for your log book – Store a designated pen with your log book so when the time comes to write something, your pen is already there. Also, it looks more professional if you’re using the same color ink when documenting.

3. Get a (manilla) folder for your log book – You’ll need to have some kind of folder to keep any loose pictures, receipts, documents, etc. Store it near your log book so it’s easy to access.

4. Copy everything – Copy everything you think you may need for later whether it be for your own record, evidence, or just and extra copy of a document. For example, if you’re sending out a letter that you’ve dated and signed, you’ll probably want to get a copy of the document you’re sending out for your records and/or if the receiving end says they never got your letter…you’ll have a copy to say you did so.

5. Take pictures – You can’t carry a copier in your back pocket so a camera is the next best thing. If you can’t get a copy of a document for whatever reason then try to take a picture. I most advise this tip if you’re at the post office and you want proof that you sent a document, take a picture of the letter after it’s postmarked, if they’ll let you. Also, it’s great if you get into a car accident and you want evidence.

6. Get delivery confirmation – If you’re paranoid and want solid documentation of your letters and such, always get delivery confirmation and/or tracking numbers. Having these will give you evidence that your letter was received and/or also a signature to back it up.

7. Keep all your receipts – Keeping your receipts from major purchases or even just from sending a letter will be back up evidence that you paid for or sent something(s).

If you’re wanting to start documenting, these tips should help you out. It’s never a bad time to start documenting your life.
